Selections

The tile is picked, in writing, before the tiler shows up.

Put the choices in front of the client with what each one adds or saves, and a date you need the answer by. They pick in their portal, you approve it, and nobody argues later about what was chosen.

On every plan

Set up the choice

A selection is one decision on one job: the kitchen faucet, the main floor tile, the dining room pendant. Give it a category, a description and the date you need the answer by, then add the options.

Each option has a name, a description and what it does to the price: included, plus an amount, or minus an amount. The client sees exactly that, and nothing about your cost.

The client picks in their portal

Every open selection shows in the client’s portal under Selections Needed, with its due date. They tap the option they want, and can change their mind until you approve it.

If they tell you in person, by phone or on paper instead, record it as the client’s choice from the job, with a note. It is kept as theirs, with who recorded it.

You approve it

Approve the choice and it is locked: the client cannot change it after that, because that is what you are ordering against. Each selection shows where it stands, so you can see at a glance which ones are still waiting on the client.

Where the money goes

Approving a selection records the choice. When an upgrade moves the price, write it up as a change order and have the client sign it, so the contract value, the budget and the next progress claim all agree with what was chosen.

Selling a tile allowance? Price each option as what it adds or saves against the allowance. The client sees the difference before anything is ordered, and the signed change order settles it.

Built for how it works in Canada

Upgrades are extras

An upgraded finish is a change to the contract. In Ontario, payment disputes under the contract, change orders included, were 72 of 143 adjudications in the year to 31 July 2025 (ODACC 2025 annual report). A signed change order beats a remembered conversation.

Taxed on the change order, the Canadian way

The selection shows the price difference. The change order that carries it adds GST or HST and any PST, RST or QST per line, set the same way as on your estimates.

Questions builders ask

How does an upgrade change the contract price?

Through a change order the client signs. Approving the selection records what they chose; the signed change order moves the contract, the budget and the next progress claim together.

What if the client picks late?

Each selection carries a due date, shown to you and to the client in their portal. The date is on record either way.

Can the client change their mind?

Yes, until you approve it. After that the choice is locked, because it is what you are ordering against.

My client does not use the portal. Can I still use selections?

Yes. Record their choice yourself from the job, with a note on how they told you. It is kept as the client’s choice, with who recorded it.

Is it on every plan?

Yes. Selections are on Starter, Growth and Enterprise.
