Daily logs

A record of every day on site, written where the work happened.

Weather, crew, which trades were in, what got done, and the photos that prove it. Filled in from a phone in the driveway. With no signal the log is saved on the phone and sends itself when the truck gets back into coverage.

On every plan

A daily log saved with the phone offline, shown as waiting, then sent on its own once the connection comes back. Recorded in Ridgepole with sample data.

What goes in a log

One log per day per job. The date starts at today. The rest is short on purpose, because the person filling it in is standing in the mud at the end of a long day.

Weather has no default. You pick it. A log that says “sunny” because nobody changed the dropdown is a dated record saying the weather was fine, and weather is the field a delay claim rests on. Crew count can be left blank.

  • Weather: sunny, partly cloudy, overcast, rain, snow or freezing
  • High temperature, in °C
  • Crew count
  • Trades on site: concrete, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, painting, finish carpentry, landscaping, other
  • Notes, up to a few pages if the day needs it
  • A safety box, covered below

No signal is normal, not an error

Basements, parkades, rural lots and half-framed steel buildings have no signal. When the phone is offline, the log saves on the phone and a band across the top says how many are waiting. When the connection comes back, they send themselves.

If the server refuses one, it stays on the phone, marked in red with a Try again button. It is not thrown away. A second tap on Save does not queue the same log twice.

Photos go up from the phone once it has a bar again: write the log where you stand, and add the pictures to it when it has synced.

Photos, tied to the day and the job

Photos attach to the log they were taken for, so six months later you find the picture of the footing by finding the day, not by scrolling a group chat. A calendar on the job shows which days have a log and which do not.

Every photo starts hidden from your client. The office decides which ones show up in the client portal, one at a time. Field users can add photos but cannot publish them to the client, so a picture of a mess does not reach the homeowner by accident.

Safety incidents reach the office the same day

Ticking Safety Incident makes a description required, and emails the project managers on the job so they hear about it the same day, not at the Monday meeting.

If someone is hurt, your province’s occupational health and safety rules and your board’s reporting rules decide what you must report, to whom and how fast. Report there first. The daily log is the dated site record that sits beside that report.

Built for how it works in Canada

Celsius, whatever your units

Temperature is in °C even if your company works in feet and inches. Canadian weather is reported in Celsius, and “High: 24°F” on a log describes a hard freeze, not the warm day you actually had.

Built for no bars

Rural lots and basements with no coverage are the normal case outside the city, not an edge case. The log does not need a connection to be saved.

Safety reporting is provincial

Who you report an injury to, and how fast, is set by your province and your board. The log tells your project managers the same day and keeps the dated record of the day beside your report.

Questions builders ask

Does my site super need a laptop?

No. Ridgepole runs in the phone’s browser and can be added to the home screen like an app. There is nothing to install from an app store.

What happens to a log written with no signal?

It is saved on the phone and sent when the phone is back online. If the server refuses it for any reason, it stays on the phone with a Try again button rather than being deleted.

Does my client see the daily log?

Your client sees the photos you choose to show them in their portal. They do not see your notes, crew counts or the safety box.

Which plan includes daily logs?
